Surf Injuries, and The Never Ending TRUMP Show, PLUS
a Week of Waves Heading Our Way.

Do you believe in luck? I mean both good luck and bad luck?
There are times where I feel pretty lucky, and other times where I have run out of luck. Especially when it comes to surf injuries. I recently compiled a list of my surf injuries (that I can remember).

I put this list together after my encounter this week with the hard sand bottom at the Wall last Monday. I scraped my head (and my hair) pretty badly after losing connection with my longboard in about 6" of water. The worse part was, it was my first wave. Ugh.

Talk about bad luck.

I hit the bottom pretty dam hard. My neck got jammed and I knew
right then and there that I had almost crushed a
vertebrae in my neck. In fact, my neck was sore all the rest of the day into the following two days. I knew of a couple of friends who were paralyzed by hitting their head in the shallow water. And one, who recently passed away. Joe McGovern from Rhode Island. Great guy. Great surf photographer.

I thought about Joe right after it happened. Joe had hit his head on
the sand and broke his neck. He was only in about a foot or two deep in the water. This happened in Florida. I said to my son
last week
" What local surfer has gotten hurt more than me in surfing?" In typical Max form he says, "There's a difference between being hurt and being injured. " I looked at him and shook my head.

Then I put this SURF INJURY list together. This is since 1964.

1. Ruptured my left ear drum in 1978.
2. Broke my nose in 1981.
3. Broke my lower back in 1984
4. Ruptured my left ear drum in 1989
5. Got 36 stitches in my face in 1996
6. Tore my quad tendon, and my meniscus in my right knee
on Dec 1st, 2011.

7. Got a dozen stitches over my eye in April 2011 (MOLLY)
8. Ruptured my ear drum this summer August 2015.
9. I hit bottom on my head, in the hard packed sand in about
6” of water, and wrenched the shit out of my neck
this happened on Sept. 14th, 2015
10. Then of course there's the several near drownings.
(But we have all had those).

I'm sure some of you have been hurt. I'd be curious to know how many of you have been hurt, and what kind of injuries did you sustain.

That's a pretty impressive list. Don't you think? My poor wife has been through them all with me except for the first two. So she can attest to this string of bad luck in the water.

I've had a few shark scares but never been hit by one.

Can't really call being freaked by a shark an injury. But I've had both Tiger shark and White shark encounters. However, I never got hurt. Unless you count my feelings being hurt?
I suppose my blood pressure went through the roof those times.

Can't say the same about this poor surfer.

Surfers must taste good to the White
Shark. I know, this is nasty. But it's real. I suppose I should of warned some of you about this graphic content. I can guarantee my wife is on the verge of fainting right now. The victim above survived. So that's got to make you feel better.

So what have we learned here kids? Well one thing's for sure. If you want to avoid being eaten by a shark. Always surf with someone who is a slightly slower swimmer than you. And we should never dive head first into shallow water. EVER. It's stupid. It's dangerous.

Think like a skipping stone across the water. Become one with the stone. How many skips before you hit bottom? Multiple. Now you're getting it.

"Ed's Corner" pic this week is a shot from the 2014. To be more precise, it was on Valentines day. February 14th, 2014. This one was on Ed's favorite views and angles. To see more of Ed's pics just hit the archives tab and scroll through the years and see some Ed's work. Now for Some Of My Weekly Global Observances
The continuing CLOWN SHOW of DONALD TRUMP has taken on a life of it's own. Each week I think he will run out of luck with his absurd statements. He somehow survived the DEBATE on CNN. But the very next day, he was taking questions in New Hampshire when the very first question from a gentleman from Rochester basically called Obama a Muslim, who was not born in this country. And The DONALD instead of correcting the man and being presidential, he let it slide off his back.

What? Really? We are still talking about that?

My god people we are in trouble if this is the best we have in the GOP. The Dems are not looking that strong either. Clinton has a boatload of problems with her "email gate."

Truth is, we all may be in for the wildest ride the world has ever witnessed. This election has taken on a circus atmosphere. I mean WTF is going on? Our known enemies must be laughing themselves silly. I know I would.

When that bonehead from Rochester asked that question to TRUMP we couldn't really get a good view on what he looked like. So I was able to get this clearer pic. And oh my god. Can you believe it? It's none other than
Terrorist Khaliddy "Sheik Yer Booty" Mohummed!!!

Wow! How did GITMO's big dog get into NH? I swear that KSM has greased the pockets of the guards at GITMO. Damn.

Please my friends, enjoy the weekly humiliation of the master mind behind the September 11th 2001 attacks. The man who was behind the killing of 3,000 innocent civilians. The number two big dog of AlQeada. Khalid Sheik Mohammed.

* Note to self, must pick up a case of The Rochester Gazette at
Home Depot.

Happy Birthday Victor Capozzi September 20th, 2015!
Happy Birthday Jacko Keefe September 21st, 2015
*Facebook no longer gives me the weekly birthday
updates. They only send me daily ones. Sorry.

Please keep my sister Evamarie in your thoughts and prayers
and continue to send positive thoughts to our dear friend Meghan Evans and family, same with surf photographer Andrew Rebeiro and my dear friend Greg Brooks. Also say a prayer for my good friend Robert Gerard. And please continue to pray for local Hampton surfers Terry Morrison and Rick Fiorentini and their families. And lastly, please pray for Dave O'Connor. A good man, a great mentor to so many kids, and a wonderful school principal.

Please add them all to your prayer list. Thank you.

* Thanks to all who prayed and sent positive vibes for me. They worked.

Please Support ALL The photographers who contribute to Ralph's Pic Of The Week every week for the last 9 years. **Think about BUYING a HIGH RES Photo from any of the weeks on RPOTW.

BLACK VINNY Board. 1980-2015
(Below) Tis no surprise I enjoy photoshop. Hell all you have to do each week is check my INVISIBLE Surfer section. I have fun doing it. This one though is cool. Look closely how I am standing in the 1980 pic and the 2015 pic. Pretty wild huh? I almost have the same build too. I clearly have the same grumpy face. I love it that Mackey likes to ride the VINNY in certain waves. One thing is for sure, he can surf it way better than I ever could. And I love watching him on that board.
